If you are looking for the restaurant where you can feel like home, you should definitely try Bill's.
The menu is extensive and there are good options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Chunky tables, metal shelving full of Bill’s own-label jams, chutneys and oils, and hanging garlands of dried chillies. We both really liked the trendy rustic feel of the place and the way the food was served.
We had 2 smoothies: strawberry & banana and Bill's super green (both same price £3.55) and two small dishes as starters: avocado, bacon and spinach salad (£5.50) and crab, chilli and prawn cakes (£5.85).
Fresh and green, healthy and tasty, garnished with half a strawberry and slice of pineapple, smoothies are the great way to kick-start your day.
Salad with baked croutons, Bill's dressing and greater pecorino was not bad at all, but as for me the bacon was too crispy that I could not cut it.
Crab, chilli and prawn cakes were delicious with baby gem, mango and spring onion salad.
For mains English lamb rump, brushed with garlic and rosemary (£15.5) - one of the most expensive dish in the restaurant and marinated chicken skewers (£9.95) arrived.
Usually I don't like lamb at all due to specific odour and taste but this one was nicely cooked, loved it. It was served with gratin potatoes, which was really good, green beans and rocket salad.
Chicken skewers were served on cous cous salad with parsley and lemon and with tzatziki and wholemeal pitta bread. I liked chicken and pitta bread with tzatziki, but cous cous salad had unusual flavour, because of the lemon oil was used instead of olive oil, so the predominant flavour was bitterness.
For desserts we went for carrot cake (£3.50), crumble 'n' custard (£4.50) and for 2 lattes (£2.30 per cup).
Carrot cake was really good, especially I liked cream with grated carrot in it.
Crumble 'n' custard - stewed braeburn apples and blackberries with custard in the jag, really tasty and cutely presented, this dessert was to die for!
So, overall, food is good, and the vibe is quiet and soothing. The prices are very reasonable (£56.5 for 2 main courses, 2 starters,2 desserts, 2 lattes plus 2 smoothies). It is by far the nicest place in Wimbledon (outside Wimbledon village) to meet up with friends for a quick breakfast/lunch/dinner or coffee.
P.S. Don't forget to try Bill's RED VELVET CUPCAKE TRUFFLES with white chocolate and vanilla icing centre, dusted with freeze-dried raspberries... delicious.
